Shales
Shales present a new and unique challenge for operators. Wells in this environment remain in a condition of transient flow throughout their lifetime and are usually a mixture of horizontal wells with multi stage completions and extremely complex vertical wells. The ability to determine the key performance drivers affecting the well and reservoir properties from very early transient data, as well as which completions are contributing and their effective flow properties, are all critical factors to insuring the profitability of shale wells.
Traditional simulation methods fail to provide sufficient resolution to accurately capture the endless transients and key reservoir behaviors immediately in and around the well bore and completions. Typically these methods yield results that are over-simplistic (analogs), too impractical (material balance), or too uncertain (decline curve analysis).
Object Reservoir offers customizable solutions utilizing our unique Dynamic Reservoir Characterization™ workflow, which simplifies and expedites the modeling process. Combined with our proprietary Resolve™ Finite Element modeling technology, which provides the necessary resolution required of complex shale well models, OR’s industry experts work closely with operators to provide:
- Integrated modeling of even the most complex fracture completions to help identify key performance drivers like geometry, dimensions and effective conductivity
- Completely integrated modeling of near well and completion transients from the completion to the reservoir
- Optimum well spacing and completion design to maximize your recovery for the minimum number of required fractures and well
- A field development plan and best practices for well spacing and reserves estimation
Object Reservoir has over 10 years of combined experience in the early stages of this resource development and has been working closely with operators in shale plays throughout North America and the world, including: the Haynesville, the Eagle Ford, the Woodford, the Montney, the Horn River, the Bakken, the Marcellus and many others.
OR is leading an industry charge through a series of Collaborative Exploitation Projects (CEPs) to gain a better understanding of the complex challenges shales present through these massive collaborative efforts. Fourteen of the prominent Haynesville shale players are already experiencing the value this collaboration offers. And in partnering with leading reserves auditor DeGolyer and MacNaughton, Object Reservoir promises to deliver best practices not only for well spacing, completion design, and modeling workflows, but ultimately for transforming resources into reserves.
