Resolve®
Conventional finite difference modeling technologies advertise that they enable new processes, are truly fast and accurate when dealing with near-well transient behavior issues, and can model dynamic fronts moving through the reservoir. In reality, however, finite difference methods inherently struggle with complex boundary shapes and arbitrary fracture and completion orientations. Too often the FD meshing technology provides insufficient resolution to analyze reservoir behavior, especially in tight or extremely complex reservoirs. Even with high resolution, it may not provide more accuracy due to the inherent limitations of the FD method and can increase run times to the point of impracticality.
The solution to these deficiencies requires a combination of FD with other traditional methods to deal with near-well transient behavior or areas where high resolution is required (e.g. over-simplistic analogs, unreliable material balance methods, analytic models of PTA and RTA, or semi-automated decline curve analysis). As a result, they fail to accurately capture the interaction of the reservoir with the wellbore and completion face in the context of the reservoir as a complete system.
The Resolve® engine is different. Powered by finite element automatic adaptive 4D meshing and specially developed physics, Resolve® provides the first fully integrated reservoir modeling engine. From the reservoir boundaries right up to the wellbore, the Resolve® engine models it all without the need to patch in other solutions. Validated against traditional analytic methods that only deal with specific reservoir characteristics (e.g. near-well transient behavior tools), the Resolve® engine has proven to be as, if not more accurate than conventional FD modeling technologies, in a fraction of the time. Resolves® enables an understanding of not only complex fronts and their interaction with the wellbore in conventional and offshore reservoirs, but also the fracture performance, near-well transient behavior and drainage in shales and other tight/unconventional resources.
